Hello Wanda! ? SWTW sea turtle report below…Happy #FriYay!! Guess whooo?!?…it’s WANDA!! If you don’t know Wanda, she was recently released here in Walton County and seems to really love it here!? She espe…cially loves the shallow waters close to shore, because she’s likely chasing her recent fave…CRABS!!?? That means many of you may have been in her presence and we want to THANK YOU for keeping a respectful and SAFE distance from her. Wanda is 242 lbs and gaining by the minute ?so best stay back!! ??Remember, all species of sea turtles are endangered and federally protected and it is unlawful to handle or interfere with them without proper permits. We appreciate all of you who have reported her sitings to our SWTW Hotline ?? or social media inboxes over the past couple of weeks. She is making quite the rounds!? We have a few excavation results to share with you! Unfortunately, Hurricane ? Idalia interfered with these nests and the data is not ideal, but part of dealing with nature.? These nests reached the end of their incubation period without an emergence and inventories were conducted. Check it out below ? ?Nest 38 ?125 whole/stopped development ??0% Success ?Nest 39-Green ?83 whole/stopped development ??0% Success ?Nest 42-Green ?142 whole/stopped development ??0% Success We have 7 nests left incubating!! Wooo! Thank you for keeping the beaches #CleanDarkFlat for these remaining hatchlings who will hopefully be making their way home soon! ??? Update: The storm tides ? rolled in and unfortunately inundated at least 3 out of 7 of our remaining nests ?.
