Employee Spotlight: Ray Sawdon

Meet Ray Sawdon, service worker at the city’s Beal Memorial Cemetery. Ray has worked at the cemetery for the last 15 years. He is part of a small staff of three that is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the grounds (40 acres), selling/managing plots and mausoleum space, day-to-day customer service, and assisting in burial services. If you’ve driven by the cemetery lately, you’ll see Ray’s handy work. The facility is beautiful, as it should be. He takes a lot of pride in mowing and weed eating around the monuments, something done on a weekly basis in the spring and summer. He also enjoys...

City of FWB Joins Hurricane Ida Relief Effort

The City of Fort Walton Beach is working with Damien Callais, local realtor and Louisiana native, and other area organizations on Operation Serve to provide relief items to those affected by Hurricane Ida in Louisiana. Beginning today, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m., a storage trailer will be at Fort Walton Beach City Hall (107 Miracle Strip Parkway SW) where volunteers will accept donations. Look for the Mayflower truck. Join the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department in honoring our fallen heroes on the 20th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attack on American freedom. The public is invited to visit Fire Station 6 beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, to meet the FWB Firefighters and honor our fallen heroes by ringing our ceremonial bell. City Facilities Closed Monday, August 16, 2021

Fort Walton Beach remains in the path of Tropical Storm Fred as it nears the coast. We are currently under a Tropical Storm Warning. Because of this, all city facilities will be closed to the public Monday, August 16. A decision regarding city facilities for Tuesday, August 17, will be made sometime Monday afternoon.
