Meet Ray Sawdon, service worker at the city’s Beal Memorial Cemetery. Ray has worked at the cemetery for the last 15 years. He is part of a small staff of three that is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the grounds (40 acres), selling/managing plots and mausoleum space, day-to-day customer service, and assisting in burial services. If you’ve driven by the cemetery lately, you’ll see Ray’s handy work.

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, the Fort Walton Beach Police Department, along with many other public safety partners, will host an emergency/first responder vehicle procession and commemoration ceremony in honor of our fallen heroes of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The public is invited to visit Fire Station 6 beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, to meet the FWB Firefighters and honor our fallen heroes by ringing our ceremonial bell. The goal is to ring the bell in honor of each first responder life that was lost on that September day.
